UNM 2012 – Music Innovation
UNM music festival, a festival of young Nordic composers will be held in Reykjavík 28th of August – 1st of September 2012. The festival has been held annually since 1946 as a collaboration between the Nordic countries, changing their turns in presenting the festival in-between years. Seven composers from each of the five countries partake in the festival, chosen after an open-call for compositions, to present their music and talent, work with musicians and attend lectures and seminars on music.
This year’s festival is dedicated to Music Innovation where Lectures and Workshops on the topic of innovation in instrumentation and performance are held during the festival, in close collaboration withLornaLAB, Reykjavík Art Museum, Jaðarber – concert series and Iceland Academy of the Arts. Among lecturers on Music Innovation are visual artists, composers, musicologist and instrument makers.
The festival contains in all eight concerts during the five days, held all around Reykjavík and in Skálholt, programmed with music of young nordic composers performed by musicians from all around the Nordic countries.

Ópus on channel 1 on National Radio Broadcast [Rás 1] dedicated the last show of this winter, 21st of May, to UNM and to present the upcoming festival by playing some of the music from the last five festival or since it was last held in Iceland in 2007. The recording of the show is available online for the next 4 weeks.
